Nimesha Thiwankara Senevipala is a Sri Lankan public servant, academic author, and youth affairs professional. He currently serves as the Assistant Director of Youth Affairs at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sri Lanka.
Early life and education
[edit]Nimesha was educated at Kingswood College, Kandy. He later attended The Open University of Sri Lanka, the University of Kelaniya, the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology, and the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration.
Career
[edit]From 2015 to 2020, Nimesha worked as a visiting lecturer at the Open University of Sri Lanka. In 2019, he was selected to the Sri Lanka Administrative Service. He first served as Assistant Director at the Ministry of Estate Housing and Community Infrastructure until 2022.
He was later appointed as Assistant Commissioner of Buddhist Affairs. During this time, he also served as:
- Temporary Trustee of Soragune Kuda Kataragama Dewalaya in Haldummulla, Badulla District
- Trustee of Seenigama Dewol Maha Dewalaya in Hikkaduwa, Galle District
Since 2024, he has been serving as the Assistant Director of Youth Affairs at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (Sri Lanka).
Academic work
[edit]Nimesha is the author of over 30 books, primarily focused on Sri Lankan history, folklore, and cultural studies. Some of his notable works include:
- Mandarampura Puwatha – a critical edition of a newly discovered manuscript[1]
- 1804 Mahanuwara Akramanaya – an analysis of the 1804 invasion of Kandy[2]
- Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe Nohoth Aluth Deviyo – a biography[3]
International representation
[edit]In 2025, Nimesha served as the National Leader of the Sri Lankan delegation to the Ship for World Youth Leaders (SWY36) program.[4]
